When one door closes another will soon open...

For all that has been, thanks...
for all that will be, YES!!

It saddens me to say goodbye to Homemade Gourmet.  I have been with this company now for 8 years and have enjoyed everything about it.  The food was amazing, the company was all about family, and I loved sharing a good product with my friends and family!

Homemade Gourmet has decided to merge with Tastefully Simple, so if you are looking to continue to mail order particular mixes, you may want to take a look at Tastefully Simple.  I have not yet decided if I am going to join on as a consultant for TS or not at this time.  Taking this month to just enjoy friends and family and not think about other obligations.  But I will keep you posted through my blog what my next adventure will be!  I am looking forward to new beginnings for sure!

This summer has been amazing so far... I traveled by myself (for the first time ever) all the way to Old Forge New York to see my sweet friend Leslie.  I spent a week with Leslie and her awesome family.  They were wonderful hosts and I will for sure be heading back one day soon.  Leslie and I did lots of shopping in some wonderful small and friendly towns, we took long walks and had lots of coffee mornings in our p.j's.  It rained the entire time I was there, but it did not matter as it was just fun being with my long time friend for more then two hours a year!  We talked, we laughed, we ate and we drank Big Daddy E's wonderful Gin and Tonics every evening!  Guess what ladies...  Big Daddy E, even helps with cooking!!  He grilled some amazing chicken while Leslie outdid herself as usual in the kitchen with Salmon, Smokin Mac and Cheese and some outstanding breakfasts.  All of which you may find on her wonderful Sugar and Spice blog.  (see the blogs I follow for Leslies blog)

My trip to Old Forge brought me new friendships as well.  My trip with Leslie to Old and Everlasting was so wonderful.  What a shop.  If you love primitive and country, check her site out.  She also has a blog that you will find by going to the Blogs I follow.  Marianne and her husband were so lovely and even gave us a private viewing of the Barn Sale that we were a week early for.  That my friends was a blast.  We shopped in the barn all by ourselves!  I was like a kid in a candy shop!  Had to remember that I only had one medium size suitcase!  They did tell me they could ship... but I thought that Brad might kill me if a big package showed up with lots of goodies in it before I did!!  lol  But I was inspired by this shop and by Leslie's lovely home with lots of decorating ideas!

This trip for me was so needed.  I was able to recharge myself, which all moms and wives should be aloud to do once a year!  I came back so refreshed and ready for what reality throws my way next!  It's been a difficult year of medical issues with myself and the kids... so the break away from all that was wonderful.  It was good to just sit and talk with Leslie, who also deals with auto-immune illness.  We understand each others trials and discomforts and are able to support each other through some tough times.  After all, that is what friends do.  I have been blessed with wonderful people in my life, and for that, I am truly thankful.  All one needs in life are good friends and time for each other!  Don't keep putting things off.... we never know what tomorrow will bring.

"The happiness of life is made up of little things -- A smile, a helping hand, a caring heart, a word of praise, a moment of shared laughter.  We are most alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures"

I am not sure what this blog will bring next...  maybe just life itself, maybe some inspiration, maybe laughter!!  Stay tuned my friends!!  Love, peace and blessings!

Simply Salad!

I love my salads and am always trying to create a new and different salad to serve!  Homemade Gourmet has been helpful with their numerous salad dressings that are marvelous!  You can find salad recipes by going to my Homemade Gourmet site (to the right of this page) and click on Recipe Search, then on the side bar click on Sides and Salads.

I enjoy the Apple Pecan Vinaigrette Mix, it offers a sweet and tart flavor of fresh apples with crunchy pecans.  All you add is oil, and apple cider vinegar.  This comes in a double pack for $11.00 and each packet makes one cup of dressing/marinade.

Apple Pecan Salad can also be a main meal, add either sliced Chicken Breast or Turkey to this for a different taste.  Great for a brunch or simple and quick dinner.  Serve this with one of our four bread choices:  Three Cheese Garlic Biscuit #01.9000  $7.00,  Texas Cornbread #01.2351  $6.00, Tomato Basil Bread #01.9001  $6.00  or our classic Beer Bread #01.5100  $6.00.

Homemade Gourmets Newest Additions! Gotta try them!!

Recipes for all three!
We also carry Sesame Ginger Dressing that I have not tried yet... that will be coming!

I know what you are thinking, “Homemade Gourmet Mustard?  Really?  Come on, what can be special about mustard?”

Yes, everything we offer in our Homemade Gourmet catalog must be something we consider special; not something you can get at any store at any time.  And trust me, this ‘mustard’ lives up to that expectation!

This mustard is a far cry from the spicy yellow spread you put on your ordinary ham and cheese sandwich.   Makes great sandwiches, hot dogs, Pork Tenderloin, and so much more!  Below I have included a wonderful Port Tenderloin Recipe that I think you'll really enjoy!

The sweet undertones turns the ordinary into extraordinary!

SPICED CRUSTED PORK

This dish is wonderful served with steamed asparagus and HG's Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Asiago Cheese.  It sounds and looks fancy, but it is really easy:

Create a spice blend using:
Homemade Gourmet’s Pepper Pizzazz (1 t.)
Snappy Seasoned Salt (2 t.)
Mediterranean Medley (2 t.)
dash of ground cinnamon.

Put this into a 9×13 pan
Place a 1 1/2 pound pork tenderloin in the dish and roll to coat…
Now cover with 2 tablespoons of the Brewhouse Malt Mustard…
Heat about 1/2 an inch of olive oil in a skillet and sear all sides of the tenderloin until it is browned on the outside…
Put the tenderloin back into the 9×13 dish and deglaze the skillet with 1/3 cup cooking sherry.  (this simply means, put the sherry into the hot skillet and whisk until the bits are removed from the bottom of the pan!)
Let this simmer until the liquid is reduced by about 1/3.  Now pour this liquid over the tenderloin that was returned to the baking dish…
Bake this in an oven preheated to 350 for about 35-45 minutes, until it reaches the desired internal temperature of 160 (medium) to 170 (well done).  Let rest 5 minutes before slicing and then enjoy!
This is one of those items you will want to order two of.  One for the fridge and one waiting in the pantry to replace the one in the fridge when it runs out. You are not going to want to have to wait for another order to come in.  When the one from the pantry goes into the fridge…time to order a replacement.

 PINEAPPLE PEPPERCORN SALSA

Here is a wonderfully fresh and flavor Pineapple Peppercorn Glaze recipe

There is so many things you can add this salsa to or you can just eat it with chips.  Added to grilled chicken, fish, fish tacos, even add it to chicken salad.

15 ¼ ounce can Tidbits Pineapples
1/2 small jicama or apple
1/2 orange bell pepper
1/2 red bell pepper
2 jalapeno peppers, stemmed and seeded
1/2 small red onion
1 tablespoon lime juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 of bottle Pineapple Peppercorn Glaze (about 7 tablespoons)
Directions:
Peel jicama or apple.  Place jicama or apple, bell peppers, jalapeno and onion in a food processor and process until coarsely chopped.
Add lime juice, salt and Pineapple Peppercorn Glaze and pulse the processor one or two times to mix completely.
Pour salsa in a serving bowl.
Serve with tortilla chips.

Sweet Chili Sauce ~ A Taste of Thai

Today’s featured ‘Ready to Serve’ product is a little spicy but very tasty!  Right out of the jar this sauce makes an impact on anything you can dip!  Like Coconut Shrimp…  Just use the Coconut Shrimp you get at the grocery freezer section.  Fresh pineapple is amazing dipped in these sauces as well!
Speaking of appetizer ideas, this sauce is great with precooked meatballs too!  Mix equal portions of the Sweet Chili Sauce with any jam or preserve (grape, cherry, orange, etc…) and pour over precooked meatballs that have been placed in a slow cooker.

Stir, cover and cook on low for a couple of hours and then serve on low for the duration of your party.

Speaking of slow cookers, this makes a wonderful slow cooked Spicy Asian Tenderloin.  Just mix 1/2 cup of the Sweet Chili Sauce with 1 tablespoon of Soy Sauce and pour it over a 1-2 pound pork tenderloin in a slow cooker.  Heat on low for about 4-5 hours or high for 3-4.
Of course, my favorite way to use our new line of Ready to Serve products is stove top for last minute dinner time decisions.  This one is no exception.  We have 2 favorite stir fry meals we have been enjoying, but really just one recipe with a slight variation.  This can be done with either breaded popcorn chicken or breaded popcorn shrimp.

Into a hot skillet or wok toss your chicken or shrimp add a small amount of the chili sauce and stir to coat the chicken or shrimp.  After a quick stir to coat the chicken or shrimp, toss in the bag of frozen stir fry vegetables of choice…

Stir fry for about 10-15 minutes, until the shrimp or chicken has warmed through.  Now serve over rice as desired and enjoy!

What? Oh ~ you want to know if you can win one?
You know you can!  If you have not signed up already on my blog AND my website, do so and you could win the Brewhouse Malt Mustard, Pineapple Peppercorn Glas, Sesame Ginger Dressing or the Sweet Chili Sauce!  You must be signed in to BOTH sites to have this chance to win one of your choice!

For the salad above, just cut up tomoato, sprinkle with HG's Garlic Basil Seasoning, #03.9002 $8.50 for double serving, or $18.00 for Pantry Staple #17.1002

Pour Balsamic Vinegar (as much or little as you like) and mix in some Feta Cheese if you like, or freshly grated parmesan cheese.  Really any cheese of your choice works!  These are the two that I prefer.  Our Garlic Basil Seasoning adds a wonderful Mediterranean spice to any dish!

Cooking is always fun with Homemade Gourmet!  I welcome you to give it a try and share your favorites with me!!

The Tres Queso I have made a few times and the family has always enjoyed it.  I have made it for breakfast, never for dinner.  I decided to try the option of Breakfast Burrito tonight.  It was a hit!   It's a hearty one-skillet meal, and really easy to throw together.  You may substitute ground beef or turkey for a delightful dinner frittata.  Tonight I added ground sausage, eggs, shredded cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa and a dash of hot sauce.

I started by cooking the sausage, shredding the cheese and cracking the eggs.
I like to get all my ingredients ready to go!

Boil two cups of water and add Tres Queso Mix, saute covered for fifteen minutes

Add your sausage to the mix, and then the egg.  If making the frittata, do not mix, let the eggs cook and set up nicely.  When eggs are set, sprinkle with cheese and serve with salsa, and whatever other toppings you would like.  For the Burrito, you would stir the eggs into a scramble.

While your eggs are cooking you can prepare your tortilla's with all the fixin's.  Once the eggs are cooked, place your tortilla in the pan, heat and add egg/potato/sausage mixture

Roll that bad boy up and enjoy a wonderful Breakfast/Dinner Burrito!!  If you have a huge appetite, you can serve with rice and beans.  By the time I fill my tummy with this huge Burrito, I am stuffed!

It's fabulous!!

While Pasta and Chicken are cooking, prepare your HG cream sauce.  Just add Mix, with Apple Cider Vinegar and  Mayonnaise and mix together

Pour sauce over chicken
